In life, we have many choices – how to spend our time, our money, our energy – and each yes is spelled with countless more no’s. So with each choice we make, our why is crucial.
The why behind my writing is rather fluid. But I guess in a way that is exactly why I do it. Because with as complex as life is, we need a way to process it. As dark as times may become, we need to understand them. As difficult as day-to-day living can be, we must persevere. And for me the medium to do so is writing.
I write because it is natural for me.
I write because I enjoy it.
I write to deal with pain.
I write to process life.
I write to celebrate joy.
I write to praise.
I write to satisfy my need to create.
When I was a young blonde boy in elementary school, I discovered my love for creation – for joke and story telling – much like a giraffe discovers he has a long neck, really. It was just there. However, as I grew older I began to see my artistic side as different, and therefore – as is the only logical conclusion in the mind of a cool middle school boy (I think I was pretty cool) – in need of reprimanding and complete silencing.
Therefore from the ages of 12 to 17 inside the confines of my bedroom, I silently began to uncover the craft that God had given me – the gift of songwriting, of poetry, and of storytelling.
Now I am 22 and finally free to share the gift that God has given me. My hope is that these stories will bring you, the reader, some joy, the occasional laugh, and the constant desire to look inward and consider your why in everything you do.
Expect some stories, some poems, and maybe even some songs, but nothing that will take you more than 10 minutes (assuming you can read semi-sufficiently). I have no wisdom not acquired from others, so I will rarely if ever write in such a way. Instead I will tell you stories that I hope are gripping, and you may gather from it what you may.
This blog will be no ordinary blog, but you are no ordinary person. You are special, unique, and created to create. And I’m thankful you are willing to read a little bit of my creation today.
